Saturday 27th July’s Racecards for UK & Ireland
Fleur Au Fusil caught my eye with her recent Leopardstown victory, but she’ll require the hood to help settle her if she’s to get home, although the faster race tempo should also help. Both Jalon D’oudairies & Romeo Coolio, trained by Gordon Elliott, stand out as strong contenders, and it’s difficult to choose between the two. Teeshan appears to be the top choice among the British runners and can secure a place, or even victory, in the race.
Goodwood on Friday: Tips and runners for every race including the King George Stakes
Losses have been steepest in Grade 1 contests with your £1 bet returning on average 79p (loss of 21p in the £). Horses that won a Grade 1 contest LTO have scored close to one race in every four which is impressive. Backing all runners would have yielded a good profit also of over 22p in the £. Horses winning LTO in either Grade 2, 3 or Listed company have very similar strike rates, but it is Listed LTO winners who have created the best profit (£49.48 returning 41p in the £). We will examine Irish trainers versus UK trainers in more detail later, but Irish-trained clear favourites have done well.
Our Trader and Scout have picked out the following bets for Race 2 👇🏼
- The thrice-winner sample size is only 70 (all other samples across the table were in at least multiple hundreds and generally thousands).
- This is shallower than those meetings with Champion Hurdle aspirants, actual and absent, and it wouldn’t be a total shock if she were to bounce back.
- Gallagher simply looks at Ballyburn and says, “hold my drink”…
- With three or four habitual waited-with sorts in opposition, which if any have shown the ability to quicken off a potentially false gallop?
- I think we will stay at a mile, looking at him today he could step up a little bit further, but we will see.
- But then came Leopardstown and the Dublin Racing Festival (DRF) where, in the Grade 1 novice chase there, he just ran a shocker.
- Performances are influenced by factors such as a horse’s fitness, the distance of the race and whether the ground is soft and boggy or firm and fast.
- Favourites (Clear & joint) have won 3 of the last 10 renewals of the Mares Hurdle and have performed 44% worse than market expectations.
Tom Queally’s mount still has the potential for better and is worth another go at this marathon trip. Reshoun returned to winning form at Newbury 13 days ago and is feared, along with stablemate Hydroplane and last year’s runner-up Withhold. Fourteen jump fixtures for us in the schedule for the week with a wide geographic spread. We start the week in Scotland with an extended seven race card at Ayr. Following quite a long spell of rain leading up to the meeting the going has now eased to Good to Soft.
At least someone’s had a good day…
I’d rather take shorter when knowing the ground with him. In the end, I’m swerving The Goffer on the basis of the Irish record, which will of course be the wrong thing to do one of these years; but I definitely want a bit of the The Big Breakaway with the extended places as well. A bit of a wise guy horse on the preview circuit has been Mistergif, another Willie wunner, this one in the double green of Munir and Souede. Rated 75 or so on the flat in France, he failed to win in nine starts before trying hurdling. Under the new code, he was fifth in a Listed race on his debut and then second in a conditions event, both at Auteuil; but the horse that beat him on that final French start is zero from five (fallen three times, third once) since.
Stars of sport
- His best form is on decent ground so that’s a plus, and he may have been a little outpaced at Kempton last time when second in Grade 2 company.
- The No Foto Needed service is an established member SBC’s Premium Tipster range and features winning racing tips from a true racing expert.
- A reproduction of that form may well suffice here, with Kemari, Regal Reality and Max Vega taken to fight it out for the minor medals.
- If you’ve been reading stuff on here for any length of time, you’ll have noted myself, but especially Dave Renham and Chris Worrall, evangelising about the value of draw and run style.
- She’s a proven Group performer and David Egan will be hoping he can get plenty of cover from stall four.
- And if they go a million on the front then he could just nick the whole enchilada.
- Other top horses he has ridden include Solwhit, the 2013 World Hurdle winner and 2006 Gold Cup hero War Of Attrition.
- That would have netted 36 winners from 180 runners (20% strike rate, 69% race win strike rate) and a level stakes profit of 46.48 points at Starting Price.
- LH – It’s a horse race (“thankfully”), and stuff can go wrong; but it will very much have to for CH to get beaten in the CH.
His pre-race RPR is 7lb superior to anything else in this race and 10lb clear of the top rated in the Supreme (Slade Steel, who he comprehensively beat last time). He’s got an almighty engine on him, and seems to be pretty versatile ground wise; the trip Bolts Up Daily is fine and he can lead or race handily; and he’s jumped very well in the main. Horse racing in the UK is hotly watched by numerous parties, and since events happen all year round it is definitely worth looking into if you want to place a few bets.
Cheltenham Festival Novice Grade 1 Micro System
- She beat the same mare, Minella Melody, by nearly two lengths in a Grade 2 in November and then by more than six lengths in a Grade 3 at the turn of the year.
- This will be tougher though the extra distance should mean she’ll be able to get into a better rhythm than was the case when midfield in last year’s Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.
- Records of “running horses” exist from the 9th and 10th centuries.
- A cloudy day is forecast and the south-westerly breeze should see the track slightly drying through the day.
- The selection’s stablemate Hamish won this in 2022 and is in his element when the mud is flying.
And welcome to our coverage of day two of the Cheltenham Festival. There are eight races on the card, starting with two Grade Ones, the Novices’ Hurdle at 1.30pm and the Novices’ Chase 40 minutes later. The pick of the day is, of course, the Queen Mother Champion Chase at 3.30pm.
Ayr Gold Cup Trends
This season, battle lines are drawn between Britain and Ireland and, as with the Champion Hurdle two races later, team captains are Messrs Henderson and Mullins. Willie also has Zarak The Brave, who is at least vaguely credible for the frame at a price. His form this season is 1P1, wins in the Galway Hurdle (off 145 in a field of 19 on goodish ground) and a Naas Grade 3 in a small field on soft sandwiching a flunk when he was found to have been post-race clinically abnormal. I’m not entirely sure what that means but perhaps it was a fibrillating heart; conjecture aside, if he can bring his A game he is one of the few within a stone of State Man on ratings. Although they’ve been getting closer in recent times (2nd and 4th last year), the Irish don’t have a great overall record in the Ultima (0/38 since 2007) and you have to go back to 2006 and Tony Martin’s Dun Doire to find their last winner.

Over the course of his first 15 months (Jan 21 to March 22), he performed so well that we setup a Free Tipster service for SBC members to follow. Thus ‘No Foto Needed’ was born – a way for him to supply advice via this specially curated SBC run service, without having to put his real name to its operation. No Foto Needed secured 18.84% of the vote, beating some well respected and high profile services in the process.
- Moreover, only three priced bigger than 14/1 scored, from 335 to face the starter, with this group losing 274 points at SP.
- 2022 saw TradeHost become even more profitable with 22,698 Betfair markets traded.
- Not getting any younger at the age of seven but looked at the peak of his powers when smashing the course record at Newbury last time.
- Well beaten by Altior at Sandown later and he looks to have had his day in the sun.
- Ballyoptic is too inconsistent to have too much faith in but there is no denying his ability.
- 20/1 bar these, the first of which is Champ, now ten and last seen winning well in a Grade 1 hurdle.
- Again, Betfair and Paddy Power have the largest availability of live streaming events, closely followed by SkyBet.
Runners and race-by-race tips for Goodwood on Friday
- His dam was a very talented hurdler in France and his half-sister has also won over timber this season, so there is hope that he could be above average.
- Irish runners finished 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 10th and fell.
- Nevertheless, when the media cries “certainty” and the market posits 4/6, punters are well served to beware.
- He’s pretty exposed is this chap and he’s shown very little.
- Hunters Yarn is a horse that jumps off the page in this race.
- More Grade 1 action, you lucky people, as the first foray over fences, the Arkle Challenge Trophy, follows the Supreme.
- At an each way price, she is the final leg of this magnificently sneaky seven.
- The Fame And Glory gelding has a smart turn of foot and could be leniently treated from an opening handicap mark of 147.
A race most remembered for Badsworth Boy’s hat-trick of victories from 1982, a big win for this author with Azertyuiop in 2004, Master Minded’s double and the thrilling return of Sprinter Sacre two years ago. The King of May ran a cracker on his first run in this country when a staying on third in a hot race at Musselburgh and can take advantage of a decent mark, especially as this stiffer track will suit. Eragon De Chanay makes a quick reappearance after scooting up at Sandown last Saturday and would assuredly have had more than a 5lb penalty is the Handicapper had been in possession of that form when framing these weights. Fakenham had to abandon their meeting a few weeks ago after the opening race due to unsafe ground, they return to action on Wednesday with extensive course changes. We also have the season finale meeting at Newton Abbot, another who have experienced past problems with the conditions. The current going is Heavy which should improve given the favourable forecast.
The trainers’ championships
Handy enough throughout, he pounced on trailblazing Dysart Dynamo approaching the second last and had enough energy left to go clear of a three-way picture for the places between Banbridge, DD and Appreciate It. If they all stand up it’s hard to see the placed horses reversing with the winner, in spite of the argument that the furlong and a bit shorter trip might favour the pace horse. That said, El Fabiolo did not impress with his jumping at Leopardstown. At 16-1 and bigger, with extra places on offer, that makes plenty of appeal. Jigme went on to win the Grade 1 Grand Course later in the year and that form, along with what he’s achieved in two starts at Cheltenham this winter, make him a solid option. Altior, late injury scare or not, is definitely the one to beat.
Tuesday’s UK & Irish Horse Racing Bets
Omniscient failed to justify 5-4 favouritism but made no mistake over a mile and a quarter at Yarmouth eight days ago, still looking rough hewn in thumping At Liberty by five and a half lengths. REBEL’S ROMANCE, who is unbeaten in three starts in Europe, rates much the best option. Another personal best came via a length-and-and-a-half margin from Live In The Dream in the Listed Scurry Stakes over the minimum trip at Sandown Park on the second Saturday in June. And Mitbaahy was unfortunate not to rack up the hat-trick over the same course and distance on the Coral-Eclipse undercard last time out.

All of our content and recommended bets are advised to those aged 18 or over. CALIFORNIA GEM makes plenty of appeal as she steps into handicap company – and tackles six furlongs – for the first time. My selection was below par when dropped back to six furlongs at Pontefract on his penultimate outing, but roared back to form under Clifford Lee on the Knavesmire 20 days ago with a half-length margin from Blue For You.
The Betfair selections we are trading above are UK time. Only filled trades or bets appear on JuiceStorm TV.
Some of Cheltenham’s greatest scenes have been provided by the likes of Istabraq, Like A Butterfly and Danoli, and our friends from across the water are throwing the kitchen sink behind Samcro. “The horse is very good. I wasn’t happy with the position I had during the race, but he’s such a good horse that he got me through.” Teenager Jack Kennedy made sure there was no hard luck story by keeping out of trouble on the outside and cruised into contention on the final bend, taking up the running from Vision Des Flos.
- The County Hurdle is often won by a Graded performer, most notably last season’s subsequent multiple Grade 1 winner State Man.
- It was a terrifically convincing score there but in a slow time beating (relatively) slow horses.
- KARMOLOGY looks the solid option in this competitive fillies’ handicap.
- Ontheropes is a slight rarity in that he’s a Cheveley Park Stud entry, and trained by Willie Mullins, that is not favourite.
- He’s officially top rated in the line up, on 161, and this season has run 3rd in the Munster National, won the Troytown, been 2nd in the Becher Chase and bolted up in the PP Hogan Cross Country Chase at Punchestown.
- Haut En Couleurs has plenty of untapped potential and could usurp the finishers from that race if standing up.

So we have come a long way without having to delve too deeply into the form book. The string of numbers to the left of each horse’s name are the form figures and they are places they have finished in their most recent races, reading from left to right with regards to their latest position. So if a horse has figures of , it would have won its last three races but finished sixth the time before. I’ve always been a big believer that it’s the best horse who wins the race and not necessarily the best trainer or jockey, but that’s a debate that continues to run.
CHECKANDCHALLENGE is a lightly raced and improving three-year-old who looks well up to making his mark in Group 3 company. Back on the Flat, Make My Day ran a fine second to Super Superjack at Ascot in May before again taking the silver medal behind Black Kalanisi at Goodwood the following month. On both occasions, the six-year-old was strong at the finish over two miles and things didn’t go to plan when my selection returned 13 th of 19 – Reshoun was ahead in fifth – in the Ascot Stakes at the Royal meeting last month. In the Oaks, only eight runners go to post in one of the weakest runnings of the Classic I can remember.
That said, plenty of owners and trainers are represented by multiple runners so they may send a ‘hare’ forward to chase. He’s a very unsexy price but might still be value at around 1/3. I don’t really fancy Irish Point, who in my view would have been better placed in the Stayers’ Hurdle even if his owner does have Teahupoo for that.
Asfoora joins Choisir (2003), Takeover Target (2006), Miss Andretti (2007), Scenic Blast (2009) and Nature Strip (2022) on the Australian roll of honour in what was formerly the King’s Stand Stakes. The five-year-old had made it to the track just twice since his fast-finishing fourth in the St James’s Palace Stakes two years ago, but he served notice there may still be a big prize on his horizon with a pleasing performance. “The Wolferton was the alternative but it’s on the round course and you need a lot more racing luck on there. As Docklands carries the colours of Australian-based owners OTI Racing, he is set for a trip to the southern hemisphere later in the year. “That was a really good run, it’s just a shame to miss out. He deserved it and we really thought he had a chance,” said Turner.
Despite previous trends favouring shorter-priced horses, this year’s contest appears to be wide open. The absence of a standout bumper horse from Ireland contributes to the race’s unpredictability, reflected in bookmakers offering odds of 6/1 for the entire field at time of writing (Tuesday morning). He’s capable of getting placed, but too expensive to follow. Paul Nicholls’ Stay Away Fay won last year’s Albert Bartlett Hurdle and has had a great start to his chasing career winning his first two and then running the race of his life when a close third in the Cotswold Chase last time out.
